Maine Roller Derby introduces newest Home Teams’ skaters in annual Freshie Debut Bout
Portland, Maine – November 19, 2024 – Coming to a roller rink near you: Maine Roller Derby’s (MRD) newest Home Teams’ skaters are ready to bout. The Shipwreckers added four new members to their numbers and the R.I.P. Tides drafted six skaters. These ten skaters all participated in MRD’s 2024 Fresh Muscle training program, a comprehensive, skills-based approach to learning the rules, strategy, and teamwork involved in the sport. Join us this December to celebrate their first public bout!
“I’m extremely proud of the 2024 class of New Recruits. They had less time than previous classes to develop the skills needed for their first bout, but everyone worked incredibly hard over the past four months, and their dedication truly shows,” said Tricia Jamol, also known as Slammin’ the Head of New Recruits. “I keep reminding them how far they’ve come since first getting on skates in July. It’s no small feat to learn a completely new, highly physical sport—especially one on wheels. I’m excited to see where their derby careers will take them.”
In addition to the roller derby action, this event will offer a family-friendly atmosphere with food and beverage options, merchandise, and opportunities to meet the athletes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends and families to enjoy an evening of excitement and entertainment.
