Maine Roller Derby Announces Recruitment Night on June 26th at Happy Wheels in Westbrook
Westbrook, Maine – June 14, 2023 – Maine Roller Derby (MRD), the state’s longest-running and largest roller derby league, is thrilled to announce its upcoming Recruitment Night on June 26th at 6:30pm. The event will take place at Happy Wheels located in Westbrook. This exciting occasion invites community members interested in joining the league to learn more about the sport, meet MRD league members, and discover the thrilling world of roller derby.
Maine Roller Derby has been overwhelmed by the tremendous interest shown by community members eager to become part of our league. The response has been truly inspiring, and we are excited to provide an opportunity for individuals to experience the dynamic and empowering sport of roller derby firsthand. We are currently recruiting for skaters, officials and volunteers.
Tricia Jamiol, also known as Slammin’, the Head of New Recruits at Maine Roller Derby, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled by the overwhelming interest and support we have received from the community. The passion and dedication of potential skaters have been truly remarkable. We can’t wait to welcome them to our league and help them discover the joy and camaraderie that roller derby offers.”
In addition to welcoming new members, Maine Roller Derby is actively seeking individual and business sponsors to support its Skatership program. The program aims to raise funds that will offset costs for new recruits and league skaters, making roller derby more accessible to all. MRD recognizes the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse community and believes that financial barriers should not hinder passionate individuals from joining our league.
Tricia Jamiol further emphasized the significance of sponsorships, stating, “Our Skatership program plays a vital role in ensuring that roller derby is accessible to everyone.
