Home Team Rivalry: the R.I.P. Tides versus the Ship Wreckers

Portland, Maine – September 2, 2024 – Welcome Maine Roller Derby’s Ship Wreckers and the R.I.P. Tides back to the track as they face-off in MRD’s season opener. After a successful international tournament in June and a fantastic turnout for New Recruits try-outs, MRD is back at it again with a full lineup of roller derby bouts featuring both Home Teams—the R.I.P. Tides and the Ship Wreckers.

“As someone who has skated with the RIPs since the dawn of time, the sibling rivalry we have with the Wreckers never gets old,” said T-Wrecks, a R.I.P. Tide skater. “It’s always the time of my life, getting to hit my friends really freaking hard in front of a crowd of locals I love.”

Ship Wrecker skater Melly said, “The season opener in particular always feels like a big party to me–we as a community get to celebrate the sport, and everyone wins. The friendly rivalry still keeps us on our toes, but it’s all in good fun. Since we are competing against ourselves, the stakes are low, which means cultivating a space for us to try out new things.”

In addition to the roller derby action, this event will offer a family-friendly atmosphere with food and beverage options, merchandise, and opportunities to meet the athletes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends and families to enjoy an evening of excitement and entertainment.
