Welcome New Shipwreckers and R.I.P. Tides – 2024 Fresh Muscle Draft Reveal
Welcome New Shipwreckers and R.I.P. Tides – 2024 Fresh Muscle Draft Reveal
Maine Roller Derby (MRD) concluded its 2024 Fresh Muscle training program and officially drafted ten skaters to home teams on Monday, November 4th, at Happy Wheels in Westbrook. These new recruits participated in MRD’s 2024 Fresh Muscle training program, a comprehensive, skills-based approach to learning the rules, strategy, and teamwork involved in the sport. At the eagerly awaited draft reveal night, skaters from the class of 2024, who joined in July, engaged in their first home team scrimmage after the announcement.
New members of the home teams will make their competitive debut at the Freshie Debut on December 14, 2024 at Happy Wheels. “I have loved watching our freshies progress through learning skills and onto contact,” said Sparks & Wreck, one of the R.I.P. Tides’ coaches. “Now it’s time for their friends and family to get to see the results of all their hard work in their first game.”
“I’m extremely proud of the 2024 class of New Recruits. They had less time than previous classes to develop the skills needed for their first bout, but everyone worked incredibly hard over the past four months, and their dedication truly shows,” said Tricia Jamol, also known as Slammin’ the Head of New Recruits. “I keep reminding them how far they’ve come since first getting on skates in July. It’s no small feat to learn a completely new, highly physical sport—especially one on wheels. I’m excited to see where their derby careers will take them.”
New members of the Shipwreckers:

Shipwreckers’ captain, Chopped Liver said, “It was very difficult for us as team leaders to decide which skaters would be on each team. All of the Freshies are such strong skaters and great people! In the end we looked at the holes in each team’s makeup and tried to delegate the skaters accordingly. Ultimately, though, we are all one big Maine Roller Derby team, so even though we’ll be facing off against each other in the home bouts, we still practice together all the time!”
