PORT AUTHORITIES ARE RANKED #24 IN THE NATION
Maine Roller Derby is wildly excited to report that the Port Authorities have broken into DNN’s Power Rankings at #24! Derby News Network, the roller derby go-to for scores, bout recaps and rankings, produces the Power Rankings, a monthly ranking of the nation’s top 25 roller derby teams sanctioned by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. Derby News Network is not an official ranking, but it’s held in the highest regard by the roller derby community.
Here’s what DNN had to say about Maine: The Port Authorities have been showing some new fire since a influx of new blood from regional powerhouse Gotham. Last year’s action ended late with a very close game against steadily rising Naptown, and in March they acquitted themselves well against a similarly rising star in the East, Dutchland. However, it’s their 113-84 loss to perennial Eastern contender Boston that pushes them into a Power Rankings debut here.
When asked what the ranking means to the team, Captain Itsy Bitsy Fighter, said “Breaking into the Power Rankings means the derby community truly takes us seriously and proves we are not to be dismissed. It ignites the team to work harder than ever to maintain our momentum and strive for goals we may not have considered in the past.”
Punchy O’Guts, also a captain for the team, said, “This is huge for us. I am ridiculously proud of the Port Authorities! Being recognized as one of the top 25 teams in the US shows how hard we’ve worked with so few resources. This tiny team has so much talent, heart and guts.”
