MRD Completes First Youth Skating Skills Course

Twelve skaters participated in Maine Roller Derby’s first six-week youth skating skills class, organized in collaboration with Portland Parks, Recreation and Facilities. The new skaters learned essential skating skills, played lots of games, and practiced non-contact skills that will be applicable to the sport of roller derby! MRD skaters including Jumpy Magee, Claire Le Nutz, T Wrecks, Betty B. Tough and Velocity Raptor, helped coach the young skaters. At the conclusion of the first session, the new skaters took a victory lap at the beginning of Maine Roller Derby’s Wicked vs. Good bout at the Portland Expo on October 19.
