Maine vs Suburbia
DOUBLE-HEADER IN YONKERS | April 30, 2011
YONKERS, NY. Both the Calamity Janes and the Port Authorities traveled to New York for a double-header against Suburbia Roller Derby.
The Port Authorities (ranked #9 in the east) played first against the Suburban Brawl (ranked #12), who put up quite a fight in the first period, keeping the score within a few points. Suburbia’s efficient defense forced the Port Authorities to work hard for every point.
Here’s what Suburbia had to say about it:
The Suburban Brawl took on Maine Roller Derby’s Port Authorities, ranked 9th in WFTDA’s Eastern region (but #1 in skater intro dancing!). Suburbia’s hard hitting kept the score close through the first period, but in the second half, Maine’s blockers’ strong lateral footwork held the Brawl’s jammers back and widened the point spread.
After one win, The Calamity Janes were determined to take down the Backyard Bullies in the next bout. Both teams came out blazing, keeping the score tight and the crowd on the edge.
Here’s what Suburbia had to say:
Next up, Suburbia’s Backyard Bullies faced off against Maine’s Calamity Janes. The teams were evenly matched throughout the first half, with impressive jamming by MVP Jeri Fling-Her and the Bullies’ newest member, Chopstick Murphy, but once again Maine rallied in the second period, winning by only 20 points.
Final Scores
Port Authorities 131 – Suburban Brawl 74
Calamity Janes 88 – Backyard Bullies 68
