Jumpy McGee plays with Team Indigenous
Maine Roller Derby’s Jumpy McGee will be traveling to Montréal, Québec this November to play in a special exhibition bout at the 2019 International WFTDA Championships. The game, We Are Nation: A Game Without Borders, features Team Indigenous Roller Derby versus Jewish Roller Derby. Jumpy is a founding member of Team Indigenous. In 2017, Jumpy and Mick Swagger worked together to create an international team of Indigenous skaters from around the world. The team first competed in the 2018 Roller Derby World Cup. After the World Cup, the New York Times published a feature article, ‘Decolonizing’ Roller Derby? Team Indigenous Takes Up the Challenge. You can read more about the origin of Team Indigenous in a Strong Athletic blog post, The Origin Story of Team Indigenous As Told by Co-Founder Jumpy McGee, aka April Fournier.
Even if you’re not attending champs, you can still watch We Are Nation: A Game Without Borders online, the game will stream live and for free on Saturday, November 16 at 11:30 a.m. on WFTDA.tv.
