LANCASTER, PA – In a closed sanctioned game on Saturday afternoon, rising Dutchland (unofficially #25 in the nation via DNN, officially #10 East via WFTDA) continued a successful 2011 with a 156-104 defeat of visiting Main (#11 East WFTDA). While it was close for the the first nine jams, Dutchland doubled up Maine by the end of the first half and was solidly in control for the second half. It was Dutchland’s 4th win in a row and the followup to an upset win over Atlanta; Maine dropped to 2-1 on the year after large margin victories over relatively new WFTDA leagues Garden State and Queen City.
As the game started, the teams traded the lead before an early 7-7 tie. Maine’s Spry Icicle was able to get lead in the next jam, pushing Dutchland’s blockers successfully to 20 feet, picking up 3 points before calling it off. Maine’s Barbara Ambush used the same move to pick up lead in the next jam, calling it off with 2-0 over Nash Villain. Next, Maine’s defense forced Dutchland’s Twisted Scizzors to call it at 1-0, leaving the score 12-8 in Maine’s favor. In the following jam Dutchland’s White Thrash delivered a solid 10 point jam as her teammates Hillbilly Hellcat and Spinal Snap held Spry Icicle in the pack for the full 2 minutes.
Dutchland now had the lead and would keep it the remainder of the game. In jam 9, Grim D. Mise grabbed a 2-2 over Skid Ho, bumping the score to 20-14. Nash Villain took the line in jam 10, picking up 18 points while the Dutchland defense circled Maine jammer, Polly Gone, who eventually went to the box for an OOP major. The next two jams were big: 13-0 for Dutchland followed by 14-0 for Maine, leaving the score 58-28. Both teams traded small jams for the next few minutes. Dutchland finished the period strong with Nash Villain picking up another 13 points on a power jam as Grim D Mise looked on from the box after getting her 4th minor. Dutchland led 68-33 at the half.
Starting off the second period, Dutchland’s Skid Ho grabbed 4 points before being sent to the box on a major cut; Grim D. Mise was released and picked up a quick 3 points. Maine’s Itsy Bitsy Fighter put down a 19-0 over Skid Ho who found herself leveled to the floor over and over by Maine’s Punchy O’Guts. But next up, Maine found themselves in penalty trouble; having only one blocker on the floor at times and allowing the full Dutchland pack to handle Grim D. Mise while Nash Villain sped through picking up 18. Two jams later, Dutchland’s blockers successfully took advantage of another power jam, allowing for White Thrash to grab 23 points, pushing the score to 115-66.
From there, Dutchland was never in serious trouble; jam 13 saw a impressive 20-9 jam for Maine’s Itsy Bitsy Fighter that made it 140-94, but it didn’t launch a rally, as Maine was held scoreless over the next three jams and only put up 10 more points for a final of 156-104.
Maine went on to defeat DC (currently #9 East WFTDA) Sunday 163-82. Dutchland takes a break until next month, hosting Suburbia on April 16th.
