Calamity Janes 60, Rideau Valley Vixens 210
Oct 16, 2010 | Happy Wheels, Portland ME
Bout recap by Punchy O’Guts
The Rideau Valley Vixens travelled from Ottawa, Canada to take on the Calamity Janes and went home with a huge victory. These ladies came to win and put up quite a challenge for the Janes.
Having been four months since the Janes last played, the team saw a major change in the roster. With six fresh faces, the team was challenged with finding their groove on the track. In addition to the new members, two veteran Janes sat on the bench due to injury: A-Block and Porsche D’Rail Yah.
Though the Janes put up a good fight against the Vixens, they were no match. Unable to change up their strategy, the Janes repeated the same wall-in-back at the beginning of each jam. The Vixens blockers were quick to divide and conquer – leaving their jammer to sail through – and quick to slam the door shut on the Janes jammers.
The Janes were able to capitalize on power jams and the Vixens’ penalties, slowing down the pack to a crawl to eke out as many points as possible. When they abandoned their wall-in-the-back strategy, they often found the jam to work in their favor.
I’m anxious to see how the Janes pull together for the 2011 season. Under new captainship and with a crop of fresh meat skaters slashing their way to the top of the MRD food chain, we’ll be seeing a brand new team.
