Audience Code of Conduct

Audience Code of Conduct

Maine Roller Derby (MRD) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone who participates in or attends our events. We strive to create a space where all individuals can feel respected and valued, regardless of their race, skin color, national origin, ancestry, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or gender – including gender identity and expression. This policy is intended to help us achieve these goals by communicating our expectations for audience behavior, and how we respond to behaviors that do not meet our expectations.

    1. To ensure that everyone can have a positive experience at MRD events, we ask that all our audience members adhere to the following Code of Conduct (COC):
      1. Treat everyone with respect:
        1. We expect all individuals to treat others with kindness, respect, and empathy.
        2. Do not engage in language or behaviors that are discriminatory, harassing, or derogatory towards any person or group.
      2. Maintain a safe and welcoming environment:
        1. MRD events should be free from physical and emotional harm.
        2. Please refrain from engaging in any behavior that may create a hazardous, threatening, or harmful situation for anyone
      3. Follow the directions given by all event officials and venue staff members.
    2. MRD reserves the right to determine what we consider to be disrespectful language and behavior, who we appoint to respond to any such incidents, and how we respond to each unique situation:
      1. MRD will not tolerate any behavior that violates this COC.
      2. MRD representatives may, but are not required to, issue warnings and provide opportunities to correct any behaviors that violate this COC.
      3. MRD reserves the right to take any actions that we deem appropriate in response to COC violations, including reporting incidents to the appropriate authorities, or requiring that certain individuals leave our event.
    3. Audience members who witness behaviors that they think are in violation of this COC are encouraged to report the incident.
      1. Reports of COC violations can be made to any MRD Bout Production representative at the event, or by emailing the MRD Board of Directors – mrdbod@googlegroups.com

Thank you for helping us to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming community space.
